What we do to combat tobacco in our community: Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department conducts projects related to adult and youth tobacco prevention. We work with community leaders and partners to decrease tobacco use in Muskingum County by encouraging tobacco-free environments and promoting cessation efforts.

Reasons to quit using tobacco: Tobacco causes cancer, heart disease, chronic bronchitis, asthma and emphysema to name a few. The average smoker spends $1,500 to $3,000 a year on cigarettes. It is costly in more ways than one. Quit for your family. Live a healthier, longer life and watch your family grow. They need you.

Tobacco Free Policy Assistance

Policy, systems, and environmental changes are tools that help people where they live to make the healthy choice the easy choice. Several initiatives we have worked on include tobacco free schools, smoke-free housing, and smoke-free parks and businesses. Tobacco-Free schools promote healthy lifestyles and provide positive role-modeling for children. Smoke-free housing, parks, and businesses help reduce exposure to secondhand smoke, and help improve the health of the community. The negative health effects of secondhand smoke are well documented and include lung cancer and heart disease.

Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department provides tobacco policy examples, education, assistance with drafting your policy, assist with implementation, and signage. All of these services are free.
